We propose to observe the radio counterpart of GW170817 in order to investigate the most recent compelling evidences that the source could have reached its brightest phase over the period 120-180 days . The outflow structure can be distinguished by monitoring its radio flux evolution in the next months. We request to observe the source at four epochs in the L and C bands. The first epoch can probe the thin regime of the emission, possibly confirming what emerging from the most recent X-ray–optical–radio data. Any unforeseen behaviour of the flux would require a profound rethinking of the currently proposed models. The four requested epochs will complement the scheduled global-VLBI observations, proposed by the same team, aimed at disentangling the outflow structure models (jetted or isotropic) as well as monitoring of the compact structure of the flux density.
