Abstract

Whether galactic radio jets are regulated by accretion onto supermassive black holes (SMBHs) remains an open question. Previous radio studies of the link between jet production and changes in accretion were mainly carried out as follow-up observations of optical and X-ray selected transients, such as tidal disruption events and changing-look AGNs. These studies revealed a low radio detection rate (~10%) and faint radio luminosities, the nature of which remains controversial. Using the recently released VLASS epoch I and II data at 3 GHz, we identified a bright nuclear radio transient in the center of a star-forming dwarf galaxy and an optical flare that can best explained due to a TDE. We present two-epoch dual-frequency VLBA observations that precisely localize the radio emission and probe its milliarcsecond-scale structure, resolving possible jet components whose morpholgy evolution is enigmatic. We propose C-band EVN observations to corroborate the jet-like structure detected by VLBA and to measure the jet’s proper motion, if present. Given the observed flux decay of the jet components, immediate EVN observations are essential to capture this unique opportunity before the emission becomes faint and undetectable.

Context for this data

This data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
