The microblazar candidate IRAS 18293-0941
Thanks to previous EVN observations we have confirmed that the highly reddened star IRAS 18293-0941 is a new and distant microquasar. Its radio emission is resolved into asymmetric jets whose morphology agrees with the arc-second extended emission based on historical VLA data. This finding has been achieved thanks to intensive archive data mining and, remarkably, while the source remains in a non-flaring but persistent jet-outflowing state. We still ignore the details of distance and stellar type of the binary components, but probably we are dealing with high-mass system several kpc away. We are currently devoted to continue our multi-wavelength investigation while a first reporting publication is in preparation. In this context, we are requesting multi-epoch EVN observations mainly aimed to better image and resolve the radio jets. Our suspicion is that IRAS 18293-0941 is not only a microquasar, but also a microblazar likely related to unidentified gamma-ray emissions in the region. Further observational work is required to find out.

Context for this dataThis data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
