A lensing Algol-type binary?
We propose an exploratory 6-h EVN observation of the eclipsing binary star TYC 6544-3483-1, with 6.2 d orbital period, recently identified by us based on archival photometric data from the TESS space observatory. A compact non-thermal radio counterpart candidate has also been found and a key goal of this proposal is to confirm its astrometric coincidence at the sub-arcsecond level. These properties alone would not add too much interest to our target beyond the finding of a new Algol-like or related system. However, the TESS light curve displays astonishing evidence for up to FOUR gravitational lensing events per orbital cycle! We are puzzled by this unusual behavior and the EVN observations are part of our follow up approach to characterize this system and understand its unprecedented behavior and companion object.
