Has the jet in J0028+0035 been restarted at multiple times?
A double-double radio galaxy J0028+0035 consists of a pair of large-scale relic lobes straddling a pair of compact components and a coincident blazar. Our VLA images revealed that the inner double is, in fact, a triple whose central feature identified with the host galaxy has a steep spectrum. This may suggest that instead of a classical core-jet it might be either a very compact double or a diffuse single. If the core component, when resolved with the EVN, turns out to be a compact double then J0028+0035 as a whole will emerge as a very rare triple-double source. If it is a diffuse single then a transition from radio-loud to radio-quiet state might have taken place in the nucleus. However, if it turns out to be a core-jet anyway, we expect the jet to be pointed towards the southern inner lobe that appears to be a relic. With the EVN+e-MERLIN observation proposed here, we would like to check which scenario is correct. In any case, this observation would give a unique insight not only into this very peculiar object but also the recurrent jet activity in general.
