Title

Exploring the jet in a z > 6 blazar DES J0322-18

Abstract

High-redshift (z > 6) quasars are extraordinary laboratories to explore the active galactic nuclei (AGN) properties at the end of the Cosmic Reionization. Up to now, only 6 quasars have been observed at tens of pc scales with VLBI observations. Here we propose EVN+e-MERLIN observations for a newly discovered radio-loud QSO at z > 6, DES J0322-18. Discovered in Southern Sky by ASKAP Continuum Survey, this source is the only visible target of the EVN antennas. We require high-resolution radio continuum observations at both 1.7GHz and 5GHz, in order to study the properties of the innermost regions of its relativistic jets. With the proposed observations of DES J0322-18, we expect to determine the radio morphology on parsec scales, constrain the physical properties, and explore the possible jet-ISM interaction with multi-wavelength detections.

Context for this data

This data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
