Title

Probing the new extreme intrahour variable with VLBI

Abstract

So far only few extragalactic radio sources are known to scintillate on minute timescales with the flux variations stronger than 10%. The fast variability is a powerful tool for studying the interstellar medium, as well as the ultra-compact jets. We propose to observe a just discovered intrahour variable source J1402+5347 with the VLBI to obtain its apparent size and structure on sub-arcsecond scales. We will identify that angular scales with the time variability ones, derive the properties of the nearby ionized plasma cloud, and probe the innermost jet structure in the source.

Context for this data

This data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
