Abstract

Previous EVN exploratory observations of a sample of Ultracool Dwarfs (project EC067) resulted in detection of radio emission on the four objects proposed. Without downplaying the detection of radio emission on LSR J1835+3259 and LSPM J0036+1821, of special interest are the cases of the binary ultracool dwarf (UCD) LP 349-25 which has been resolved and radio emission has been identified with only one of the components, and the case of EQ 1122+2550, a very cool T6 brown dwarf with highly polarized emission and the first T-object ever detected with VLBI arrays. We request sensitive C-band VLBI follow-up observations of this sample of UCDs aimed to (i) observationally characterize the emission mechanisms by searching for correlations of both total and polarized emission with the rotation period; (ii) obtain a precise estimate of the individual masses of the binary LP 349-25, relevant to calibrate stellar evolutionary models of brown dwarfs and planets; (iii) contribute to discover and characterize orbiting planets around these objects via exoplanet induced radio emission on the UCD and/or via mas-size reflex motions noticeable with high resolution astrometry.

Context for this data

This data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
