Abstract

The jet properties of radio-loud quasars (RLQs) have been well studied, but the jets of radio-quiet quasars (RQQs) are less well understood. The study of the jet proper motion can provide crucial information about the jet launching mechanism and the physical conditions in the vicinity of the SMBH. We propose to observe two RQQs, PG~1351+640 and PG~1407+263, with the EVN to study the jet proper motion. They are selected as ideal targets for this study based on our previous studies or from the literature. The proposed EVN observations of PG~1351+640 will verify the deceleration of the PG~1351+640 jet and study the physical mechanism of jet deceleration. The monitoring programme of PG~1407+263 will confirm the apparent superluminal motion of PG~1407+263 directly from the jet kinematics and investigate whether it (as a representative of a subclass of RQQs with Doppler-boosted jets) has the same central engine as the radio-loud quasars. These studies are important for understanding the accretion process that powers the RQQ jets and the underlying mechanism that makes an AGN radio loud or quiet.

Context for this data

This data is part of the archive of VLBI data maintained by JIVE on behalf of the EVN, a network of radio telescopes located primarily in Europe and Asia, with additional antennas in South Africa. The EVN archive itself has the DOI https://doi.org/10.17616/R3Z197
